Metso Corporation's company release on March 13, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Metso will supply Korsnäs AB with a new evaporation plant and two recovery boiler upgrades to the company's pulp mill in Gävle, Sweden. The value of the order is more than EUR 20 million. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology's Q1 orders received. The evaporation plant has the capacity to evaporate 750 tonnes of water per hour and it concentrates black liquor from pulp cooking for the recovery boiler combustion up to the dry solid content of 75%. The new evaporation plant is part of the mill's modernization project and will replace three existing evaporation units. The new plant will significantly increase the mill's overall energy efficiency in addition to improving availability and environmental performance. Start-up for the evaporation plant is scheduled for the second quarter of 2010. In addition, mill's two existing recovery boilers will be upgraded for higher dry solids content from the new evaporation plant. Metso's multi-level air system will be installed in both boilers to improve the combustion efficiency, environmental performance and availability of the recovery boilers. Start-up of the first recovery boiler is scheduled for the second quarter of 2009 and the second recovery boiler for the fourth quarter of 2010.
