Yellow Jacket Invitational to be Run On Mondo Super X Performance Track

ATLANTA, March 26, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Mondo Super X Performance track at Georgia Tech's George C. Griffin Track will get heavy use Friday and Saturday as more than 600 collegiate athletes compete in the seventh annual Yellow Jacket Invitational. The invitation-only meet will bring together 10 men's and 10 women's teams from five states in the Southeast and one in the Midwest.

Mondo has been a part of Georgia Tech's track and field program for nearly 14 years. Its first Mondo track, installed in 1995, was used by athletes training for the 1996 Summer Olympics when the school's campus was an Olympic Village. The new eight-lane, 400-meter Mondo Super X Performance track replaced the first one in summer 2007 as part of a larger renovation.

Mondo has a long-standing reputation for providing state-of-the-art track surfaces. Grover Hinsdale, the university's men's track and field coach, said Georgia Tech's track has lived up to every expectation.

"When I first learned about Mondo in the early 90s, I knew it was the right track for Georgia Tech," Hinsdale said. "Since then, my opinion hasn't changed. I couldn't imagine having any other track."

The Mondo Super X Performance track offers numerous performance benefits. "Every square inch of the Mondo track provides consistent performance, and that is a huge benefit," Hinsdale said. "Our athletes have had virtually no foot, shin or knee issues, and it produces great times in competitions. I think it's one of the best surfaces for training and competition you can have."

Hinsdale also said the university has been very pleased with Mondo's customer service. "The company has always been very professional and attentive. Mondo says what it means and means what it says. They are great to work with."

Super X Performance has been the world's top track for more than 30 years and was the track of the eight Olympic Games prior to Beijing. (Mondo's newest track, Mondotrack, was the track of Beijing Olympics.) Super X Performance was designed to maintain its initial physical properties so it provides consistent performance throughout its life. The vulcanized natural rubber surface provides maximum elasticity and unparalleled durability, and its embossed, textured finish makes it extremely easy to maintain with no resurfacing required. The high-performance track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries.
