Franciscan University Selects Enterasys and Siemens Enterprise Communications

ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwire - May 4, 2009) - Enterasys and Siemens Enterprise Communications today announced that Franciscan University of Steubenville has deployed a secure network infrastructure supporting more than 22 buildings, 2,500 users and 4,000 devices on campuses in Steubenville, Ohio and Gaming, Austria. The wired and wireless communications infrastructure delivers educational and operational applications while consistently helping to enforce the university's acceptable use policies through role-based access controls for students, faculty, staff and guests. Beyond traditional networked computing systems, storage arrays and printers, the unified infrastructure also connects badge readers, video surveillance cameras, and telephones.

The advanced security features of the Enterasys solution control residence hall networks and quarantine inappropriate usage. Students that try to use unauthorized peer-to-peer applications, rogue wireless access points or unauthorized DNS/DHCP servers are automatically isolated to remove any potential network availability and performance vulnerabilities. The granular level of traffic control assists Franciscan in managing Internet access and filtering inappropriate content.

The Enterasys Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) is designed to detect attack, mitigate or stop attacks and, most importantly, contains and/or removes the source of the attacks from the network.

A Siemens HiPath® 4000 platform with OpenScape® Xpressions® and HiPath 4000 Manager provide real-time IP-telephony with conferencing, 911 location services, emergency notification and messaging for more than 1,200 Siemens handsets.
