"Know Your Numbers" and We'll Make It Worth Your While

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - May 7, 2009) - The way you choose to live your life can have a dramatic impact on the health of your heart. That's why Health Fair 11, a partnership of KARE TV, UCare, and Cub Pharmacy, is launching the "Know Your Numbers: Healthy Heart" campaign for people 18 and older.

"Healthy Heart" screening details

As part of the campaign, free "Healthy Heart" screenings will be offered at 65 Cub Pharmacy locations across Minnesota on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Screening hours are 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Participants will have their blood pressure checked and blood glucose measured. Fasting is not necessary and appointments are not needed. Participants will be given a handy wallet-sized results card to use in tracking their various health screenings.

About heart disease

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that someone in America will experience a heart-related event about every 25 seconds. One American will die from heart disease approximately every minute.

Several medical conditions are associated with heart disease, including heart attacks, arrhythmias, heart valve disease, and heart failure. Each of these conditions affects the body differently.

Heart disease can be a family affair. If other members of your family suffer from heart ailments, you probably already know how important it is to recognize the warning signs of heart disease. But even if you inherited healthy genes, you may still be at-risk for developing diseases of the heart.

There are six controllable risk factors connected to heart disease. Health Fair 11 has developed a special "Know Your Numbers: Healthy Heart" guide to help educate people on how they can improve and/or protect their heart's health. The guide, along with other educational materials, will be available at the free screenings.

Health Fair 11 is a partnership among KARE 11, Cub Pharmacy, and UCare. The mission of this nonprofit organization is to provide health care education, materials for consumers, and free or low-cost screenings to members of our community. Emails can be sent to Healthfair@kare11.com.
