RESTON, Va., June 1, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Dennis Porter has been appointed the 2009-2010 Executive in Residence by the Institute for e-Health Policy for his leadership on the Federal Health Record Gateway project.

The Institute, which is part of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Foundation, provides research and educational opportunities for public and private sector stakeholders, two key constituents who make and are most directly impacted by e-health policy decisions. The Executive in Residence program is an opportunity for a senior executive in the business community to share his or her expertise with the Institute on a project of national significance.
Conceived by Northrop Grumman, the Federal Health Record Gateway creates a virtual portal that all American citizens could access to securely view their clinical and claims data from the Veterans Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Service, and other federal sources. Within two years, the federal government can provide an electronic gateway to individuals' health information held by the federal agencies.

"The Federal Health Record Gateway would provide access to a single, comprehensive, actionable and secure electronic health record for all U.S. citizens."
As the executive in residence, Porter will provide guidance and commercial expertise to the Federal Health Record Gateway project, as well as support the Institute on programs and initiatives of significance to the electronic health community.

Porter earned a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration from Wayland University, Plainview, Texas, and a master's degree in management information systems from Oklahoma City University. He is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems.
Porter has completed the Healthcare Information Systems Management Program at the Harvard School of Public Health and a healthcare chief information officer internship with U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corps.
