BEVERLY, MA--(Marketwire - June 22, 2009) - Electric Insurance Company, a national, leading
provider of personal and commercial lines insurance located in Beverly, MA,
announced today that the Community Involvement Team at Electric Insurance
(CITE) has successfully completed the Second Annual Electric Insurance
Company Home Makeover at a home located on Cabot Street in Beverly. CITE is
an all volunteer, all associate organization at Electric Insurance Company
that is predicated on a broader organizational principle that "doing the
right things is as important as doing things right." With both financial
support and paid time off provided by the Company for these activities,
CITE members select charitable organizations where monetary donations and
hands-on volunteerism are balanced.
According to Bob Lessard, team lead for CITE, "The idea for the home
makeover began several years ago when CITE volunteers who were involved in
charitable events around the community noted a need for this type of
support. The idea flourished into a full-blown plan and, in 2008, we were
ready to host the first Electric Insurance Company Home Makeover event. It
was so successful that we decided to do it again this year. There is a
certain amount of pride that comes from not only seeing the transformation
of the home, but also the joy that we are able to bring to the family."
Over two days, more than 100 volunteers, including those from Electric
Insurance Company, Zampell Building Services of Gloucester, Odyssey
Landscaping, and J.R. Construction, performed light repairs, painting,
landscaping and more to the property. Further, Northeast Nursery and
Moynihan Lumber also assisted by providing discounted supplies for the
event.
The home makeover recipient, Cherie Gouthro, was referred to Electric
Insurance Company by the WellSpring House of Gloucester and, as a One
Family Scholar, just graduated with her JD from Massachusetts School of
Law. The One Family Scholars program is committed to ending family
homelessness by providing formerly homeless and at-risk single parents with
flexible college scholarships as well as financial literacy, career
development, and leadership training. The One Family Scholars program
currently has five sites in the Boston area including: Boston, Brockton,
Gloucester, Lowell and Malden.
In addition to the home makeover event, CITE works with a number of other
local charitable organizations including Beverly Bootstraps, Danvers People
to People Food Bank, The Food Project, The Salem Mission, Senior Care and
the Beverly Council on Aging, among others.
Marc Meiches, president and CEO of Electric Insurance Company, said, "As
one of the larger employers on the North Shore, we believe it is important
to contribute to the communities in which we live and work. Our culture of
caring is core to who we are and the way we view our policyholders, our
associates, and the community. We believe community service projects are a
great way to engage our associates and sharpen their collaborative problem
solving skills while benefiting our North Shore neighbors."
