Carbon Sciences Applauds House of Representatives' Approval of Climate Change Bill
As Greenhouse Gas Emissions Dominate National Agenda, CO2 Recycling Technology Emerges as Viable Alternative to Carbon Capture and Storage
| Quelle: Carbon Sciences Inc.
SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwire - July 20, 2009) - Carbon Sciences Inc. (OTCBB : CABN ), the
developer of a breakthrough technology to recycle carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions into gasoline and other portable fuels, commends the House of
Representatives for passing a sweeping climate change bill on Friday that
will significantly change the energy landscape of the world.
"The American Clean Energy and Security Act is a critical step towards
bringing our country
up-to-date with the green revolution. It aims to create jobs, increase
energy security and reduce carbon emissions, which are all aligned with the
goals of Carbon Sciences," said Byron Elton, CEO, Carbon Sciences Inc.
Carbon Sciences' breakthrough process transforms CO2 into fuels using an
enzyme-based biocatalytic process. One of the key innovations is a
protective shell that significantly increases the activity and life of the
enzymes. "It's been long proven that CO2 can be converted into liquid fuel,
but the lack of a scalable technology and massive energy requirements
prevented this category of technology from being commercially viable," said
Elton.
To help mitigate the 27 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emitted
annually, many experts are stressing the continued research and development
of innovative green technologies. Carbon capture and sequestration ("CCS"),
a technology that buries CO2 underground, is one such technology. But many
believe that the limitations of CCS cannot support full-scale deployment
and will not promptly mitigate the worsening effects of climate change. In
response to this challenge, carbon dioxide recycling presents a very
attractive option for solving the CO2 problem.
"CO2 recycling has an incredible list of benefits for our environment, our
economy and the safety of our country. Not only does the technology reuse
and recycle CO2, but also operations can be set up anywhere to produce
useful products, instead of just burying CO2 and monitoring it for
eternity. In our case, we recycle CO2 into fuel, one of the most useful
products in the world. Unlike biofuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel, the
fuel produced by our technology is compatible with the current
transportation infrastructure. We strongly believe this is the solution to
both energy independence and climate change," added Elton.
In September, Mr. Elton will be speaking at the Carbon Capture World Summit
in Arlington, Virginia, where he was invited to educate government
officials, financial institutions, law firms and leading industry experts,
on the benefits of recycling CO2 into fuel. "It is a great honor to be
invited to speak at the CCS conference. It shows that the CCS community is
open to new ideas to reduce carbon emissions."
About Carbon Sciences Inc.
Carbon Sciences Inc. is developing a breakthrough technology to transform
carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the basic fuel building blocks required
to produce gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and other portable fuels.
Innovating at the intersection of chemical engineering and bio-engineering
disciplines, we are developing a highly scalable biocatalytic process to
meet the fuel needs of the world. Our solution to energy and climate
challenges is a sustainable world of fuel consumption and climate stability
by transforming CO2 into fuel. For example, Carbon Sciences' breakthrough
technology can be used to transform CO2 emitted from fossil fuel power
plants into gasoline to run cars and jet fuel to fly aircraft. To learn
