Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab and M-real informed on 13 August 2009 that the operations of the Kemi site will be streamlined by integrating the management of the pulp and board mills. At the same time an investigation to further improve the efficiency of the Kemi site was started, and statutory negotiations initiated in both companies. The statutory negotiations concerned the white-collar jobs and the laboratory as well as maintenance jobs in Kemiart Liners. The negotiations affected 103 employees and the reduction was estimated to be at the most 52 persons. The negotiations were ended on 7 October 2009. The streamlining of operations will reduce 29 jobs at the Kemi mill integrate. The restructuring measures will be completed mostly during 2009. Additionally, Kemiart Liners has signed a preliminary agreement with Botnia Mill Service related to the transfer of the board mill's maintenance, as well as thereto related project and material functions. The transfer of business would mean that 17 persons will transfer to BMS.
