Applied DNA Sciences Signs Contract With Asian Printer
Will Supply DNA to International Printing Company
| Quelle: Applied DNA Sciences, Inc.
STONY BROOK, NY--(Marketwire - January 12, 2010) - Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCBB : APDN ), a
provider of DNA-based security solutions, announced that it has signed a
supply agreement with an international printing company, headquartered in
Asia. With a well established sales force, and a deep understanding of
their International and regional customers, the company chose to work with
APDN specifically to provide the highest level of authenticity and quality
of printed materials to an elite, discerning clientele. The company will
use APDN Authentication Marks to protect its clients' products from
counterfeiting and fraud. APDN successfully completed a feasibility study
for the company last year.
Per the terms of the Supply Agreement, APDN will receive payments for each
unique Authentication Mark purchased, with additional payments possible for
authenticating the Marks. Each DNA Authentication Mark is being
manufactured solely for the customer and is exclusively for their use.
This agreement extends the reach of APDN's business for the first time
beyond the US and Europe. Asia is an important marketplace for the
Company's technology as much counterfeiting and diversion takes place in
this part of the world. China and India remain the top countries of origin
for counterfeit and pirated goods, according to U.S. Customs and Border
Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"We have never seen a problem of this size and magnitude in world history.
There's more counterfeiting going on in China now than we've ever seen
anywhere," stated Dan Chow, a law professor at Ohio State University who
specializes in Chinese counterfeiting on CBS's "60 Minutes." "We know that
15 to 20 percent of all goods in China are counterfeit."
"This agreement solidifies the standing of APDN as a truly global company
expanding both the geographic and market reach of the DNA platform,"
commented Dr. James Hayward, President and CEO of APDN. "Our selling
efforts of the last year are generating revenues, enhancing our diversity
and minimizing risk concentration."
