BrainTrack Announces Teaching Scholarship Winners for Fall 2009

MARLBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - January 14, 2010) - BrainTrack, a widely referenced higher-education resource, today announced the Fall 2009 winners for its BrainTrack Teaching Schools Scholarship (http://www.braintrack.com/colleges-by-career/teaching#scholarship), a biannual scholarship for education degree students that is designed to help prospective K-12 teaching students. The winners are secondary school education student Megan Read of Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado, who received the $1,000 first-place award, and middle school teaching student Oral Urquidi of National University in La Jolla, CA, who received a $500 second-place award.

"I decided to go back to school to get my secondary English teaching degree so I could take an active role in helping students learn how to read, write and gain a love and understanding for language arts," said BrainTrack Teaching Scholarship winner Megan Read, who has completed a year and a half of her studies towards a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Secondary English at Colorado State University - Pueblo. Her winning essay encouraged future students to include professional skills training as they plan their courses, and recommended that they find ways to integrate what they learn between their teaching and subject area courses.

BrainTrack Teaching Scholarship runner up Oral Urquidi is a mother of three who is attending school online as a full-time student through National University. She plans to obtain her Single Subject Teaching Credential, Math in 2010. In her essay, she said the online degree program offers the convenience and format she needs, and she enjoys learning from her professors. She recommends that future teaching students ask "what if" questions to be sure they can easily transfer to another school and keep their credits if their personal circumstances change.

About BrainTrack's Teaching Scholarships for 2010

The Spring 2010 entry deadline for BrainTrack's ongoing Teaching Schools Scholarship is March 1, 2010 and the Fall 2010 deadline is November 1, 2010. The scholarship asks entrants to respond to essay questions that are geared toward helping others evaluate teaching as a potential career path. BrainTrack publishes a selection of those essays which prove most helpful to future students.

The scholarship is open to current students with at least one semester of credits towards graduation with an appropriate degree in teaching. Studies can be full-time, part-time, on-campus, or online and must be at an accredited US college. There are no fees for entry and all entrant names and contact information will be kept private for use only in the scholarship, except for the winners whose names will be published.
