Egenera to Discuss Converged Network Infrastructure at Interop Las Vegas 2010

Company Vice President to Address Data Center Automation and Why Networking Must Fundamentally Change

MARLBORO, MA--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) -  Egenera today announced that Ken Oestreich, the company's vice president of marketing, will highlight the advantages of converged infrastructure and its role in simplifying data center operations at Interop Las Vegas 2010, April 25 - 29. On a panel titled "Why Networking Must Fundamentally Change," Oestreich will examine current and emerging technologies that abstract network hardware to increase data center availability and responsiveness just as virtualization has done for operating system software. This Interop Networking track DEEP DIVE session takes place on Tuesday, April 27 from 2:45 p.m. - 5 p.m. PT. Other panelists include senior executives from Arista, Cisco, Dell, HP, Infoblox and Juniper Networks.

"Typical data center infrastructure -- I/O, networks, switching -- is largely physical, static, and must be manually reconfigured. Management of server provisioning, high availability and disaster recovery is siloed, adding complexity and cost," said Oestreich. "In the era of OS virtualization, live migration and cloud computing, infrastructure dynamics must change. Innovation and agility must occur in the other half of the data center -- the infrastructure. I'm looking forward to exploring new ways to logically define infrastructure with my fellow panelists."

Oestreich will describe how software-based unified computing/converged infrastructure:

  • Eliminates costly I/O and networking components
  • Simplifies and accelerates server configuration
  • Provides N+1 High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for physical, virtual and mixed infrastructure

"Egenera pioneered converged infrastructure when they introduced PAN Manager® Software and Egenera BladeFrame® ten years ago," said Jim Metzler, panel moderator and vice president at Ashton, Metzler & Associates, an information technology consulting firm. "I'm pleased that Ken, a recognized authority on networking technology and data center automation, can join us and I look forward to his contribution."

Egenera is expected to make significant product and partner-related announcements at the conference.
