BEVERLY, MA--(Marketwire - April 29, 2010) - Electric Insurance Company®, a national, leading provider of personal and commercial lines insurance products, announced today that it has won a 2010 Communitas Award for Leadership in Community Service. The Communitas Awards recognize exceptional businesses, organizations and individuals for excellence in community service and corporate social responsibility. The Communitas Awards is an international effort to recognize the spirit of communitas, people helping people, and is an outgrowth of the pro bono recognition program of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
For its recognition, the associate-led Community Involvement Team at Electric Insurance (CITE) program demonstrated the philosophy that corporate giving should be driven from the bottom up. CITE team members select the local charitable organizations Electric Insurance will support each year, both financially and through volunteer activities, and brings those organizations in need to the attention of its 500 associates.
"Our associates want to help," says 2009 CITE leader and claims manager Bob Lessard. "They feel a social obligation to give back -- it's a hallmark of Electric Insurance. CITE acts as the conduit, connecting the people that work here with the organizations and individuals that need our help. We make it easy to get involved, the Company provides paid time off to volunteer, and we make it fun. Everybody wins."
The CITE program partners with a dozen local nonprofits at any one time, meeting virtually every human need, from feeding the hungry to giving hope to cancer patients to bringing meals and companionship to lonely, homebound senior citizens.
"Electric Insurance Company is proud to be known as a company that goes out of its way to take care of people. Whether it's going door-to-door to check on our policyholders in Texas in the wake of Hurricane Ike, or coming together to help those less fortunate here in our own community, we are at our best when people need us most," said Nick Schulson, vice president of human resources for Electric Insurance Company. "CITE is dedicated to making a difference in our community by generously donating funds and our associates' time to help our neighbors in need. Over the past 10 years alone, we have contributed more than $1 million to philanthropic endeavors, including the cost of materials for community projects and the salaries of associates who volunteer."
