HOLLYWOOD, CA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2010) - Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actor and voice-over veteran, Edward Herrmann, has been confirmed as narrator for the Korean War Documentary, "Hold At All Costs," according to the film's Director, Glenn Palmedo-Smith. The film depicts the battle for Outpost Harry in June of 1953. It is considered one of the most decisive of the conflict, convincing the Chinese that the US/South Korean forces would not give up. The armistice was signed one month later. The film features more than three dozen veterans of the battle from four countries, along with commentary by former House speaker Newt Gingrich, Congressman Charles ("Charlie") Rangel (D-NY), Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), Ollie North, and historians Allan Millet and Michael Slater.
"Hold at all costs" is a rarely given order that instructs a soldier to "maintain your position, or die trying -- with no possibility of retreat." The film is produced by The Bob Baker Family Foundation. Baker is a successful San Diego businessman who fought valiantly on Outpost Harry as part of the 15th Infantry Division. The battle ranks as one of the most costly in US history, with more artillery shells fired on a single position in a single day than any other time. At some points, the number of Chinese overrunning the outpost was so great that U.S. forces on the hill called in artillery on their own positions, hoping they could survive the attack by burying themselves in their trenches and foxholes.
The motto for the survivors of Outpost Harry is, "We Held."
The film is being prepared for televised airing near Veterans Day 2010, however special screenings are planned to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War in June. The first is set for Memorial Day at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Herrmann, a veteran actor and voice-over expert, is known to many for his Emmy-nominated portrayals of Franklin D. Roosevelt on TV, and his role as Richard Gilmore in "Gilmore Girls," and as the spokesperson for Dodge automobiles. Herrmann also narrated the audio version of David Halberstam's Korean War book "The Coldest Winter."
