CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - May 27, 2010) - Sheet Dynamics, Ltd, a high-tech research and development firm, today announced that it has changed its name to Etegent Technologies, Ltd. The company, which was founded in 1996 by two University of Cincinnati PhD Engineering researchers, specializes in integrated mechatronic systems design and research in physics-based data exploitation in a variety of areas, including nondestructive test data management, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Among Etegent's customers are Ball Aerospace, Emerson Electric, General Electric, Procter & Gamble, SAIC, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Navy. In addition to the name change, Etegent has also launched its new web site at www.etegent.com.
"During the past 14 years, a number of the world's leading organizations have turned to us to uncover the hidden potential of their products and technologies," said Dr. Stuart J. Shelley, principal and co-founder of Etegent Technologies. "As a company, we have a deep understanding of our industry and our customers' challenges, and a reputation for innovation, all of which we have established flying relatively low under the radar. We feel that the time is right to better show our capabilities and move our company forward, and it begins with our name change. The Etegent name, which is Latin for 'to reveal that which is hidden,' better reflects how we help our customers and the image that we want to project as a company."
Etegent's research and development efforts extend across multiple disciplines and industries, including automatic target recognition using radar and LADAR sensors for the military, health monitoring of turbine engines in aircraft, and nondestructive inspection data management and mining; to name a few. Among the company's recent projects and past successes are developing self-verification capability for process instrumentation sold around the globe by a division of Emerson Electric; receiving six SBIR awards from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to develop next generation radar and LADAR surveillance and automatic target recognition capability; and the development of an experiment performed on board the International Space Station for stabilizing optical space platforms. The company also has 12 patents and has three pending patent applications.
"As SDL, we have established a solid foundation that includes a growing knowledge base, a library of technology patents, numerous satisfied customers and strong relationships within the public and private sectors," said Dr. Thomas D. Sharp, principal and co-founder of Etegent Technologies. "This change provides a great opportunity to thank our customers and partners that have been instrumental in our success. As we advance as Etegent, we look forward to adding to our team, building upon our current relationships, extending our reach to new customers and partners, uncovering innovative opportunities and conquering new challenges."
