In 2009, seeking to upgrade their IT security and enable improved field communications, Brady Trane contracted with Secure Designs to design and manage a robust, flexible and expandable perimeter security network. Brady Trane supports over 300 computer users within its network of four offices and five parts stores, plus more than 100 field technicians. While on the road, the field technicians use laptops equipped with Verizon aircards to enable remote communications, together with Windows mobile phones. The extensive network supports multiple office applications and systems, including quotations, ordering, service tracking, and time management.
Control Without Admin Overload
Brady Trane's IT department is guided by Wayne Thompson, CFO, and managed by Crystal Owens. With a substantial user base and multiple IT, phone and data applications to maintain, Thompson and Owens have their hands full. Security is one of the most complex and dynamic areas of IT today, requiring a commitment to ongoing training in order to stay current. Brady Trane opted to achieve a higher level of efficiency by outsourcing this complex area to SDI, while maintaining day-to-day control of their system.
SDI replaced the outdated software and router-based system with a high-performance dynamically updated unified threat management firewall, the NSA 2400 from SonicWALL. Content management, intrusion prevention, anti-virus and anti-spyware are incorporated in this advanced system. Field communications are secured with an SSL VPN 2000 appliance enabling simple and reliable access to corporate systems via the Web. SDI also installed their proprietary email scanning and filtering system to ensure "watertight" security of communications.
Customized, Secure Field Communications
Following installation in November 2009, SDI worked with both Brady Trane and SonicWALL technical support to resolve complex issues related to the field technicians' mobile VPN communications. With a combination of ingenuity, technical expertise and creativity on all sides, a customized solution was created. As a result, the system is operating smoothly, delivering a modern, protected communications environment. SDI now works with Brady Trane as their outsourced security services provider.
