CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - June 29, 2010) - Exalt Communications, the company that is reinventing microwave backhaul, today announced that Cruzio, an innovative wireless and wireline Internet service provider in Santa Cruz County, California, has deployed Exalt microwave backhaul systems to massively upgrade the capacity of its wireless backbone network and to back up its fiber network. Through Exalt's unique capacity aggregation capability, the Exalt systems enable a full duplex, 1 gigabit per-second (Gbps) Ethernet transport capability to drive Cruzio's wireless Internet access business on both sides of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
"We are building one of the most advanced backbones in the United States for service providers of our size, and we have chosen Exalt for our network backhaul because the company is consistently ahead of the curve in terms of delivering the products that forward-thinking customers need," said Chris Neklason, CEO of Cruzio. "We're not only interested in using Exalt for primary backhaul of end-to-end wireless customer traffic, but also as secondary backhaul for our fiber in Santa Cruz. That is one reason we are so pleased with the Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- they just work, they have a great management and diagnostic interface, and they scale beautifully and cost effectively."
Working directly with Exalt, Cruzio has deployed Exalt systems that use the 18 GHz, 23 GHz, and 5 GHz frequencies to reliably deliver Ethernet traffic over distances exceeding 20 miles. Each microwave link carries at least 100 Mbps full-duplex Ethernet today, and this can be expanded up to 1 gigabit per-second (Gbps) full duplex per link via Exalt capacity aggregation as other parts of the network are upgraded to handle the new capacity.
"Wireless Internet service providers like Cruzio know that their continued success depends on the capacity of their backhaul networks to support video and other bandwidth-intensive applications," said Amir Zoufonoun, president and CEO of Exalt Communications. "At Exalt, we enable today's WISPs to stay ahead of this demand by providing highly scalable systems that seamlessly and reliably upgrade bandwidth as demand requires it. And with zero-footprint, tower-friendly Exalt systems starting at under $5,000 per link, we are also lowering their network expansion, installation and maintenance costs."
The Exalt Microwave Backhaul Product Portfolio
All Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- indoor, outdoor, and split-mount -- offer guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in world bands from 2 to 40 GHz and in capacities from 10 Mbps to more than 1000 Mbps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPS 197-compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
