Dr. Phillips is a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. He also holds appointments at the Texas A&M Health Science Center and on the Intercollegiate Faculty of Toxicology. He has recently served as Director of the Center for Food Safety and Chair of the Faculty of Toxicology at Texas A&M University. He is also a Fellow in the Academy of Toxicological Sciences and Associate Editor of Food Additives & Contaminants, one of the top ranking international journals for mycotoxicology.
Dr. Phillips' research interests include food safety and environmental toxicology. In particular, his laboratory is involved with: 1) development and delineation of novel enterosorbent strategies and therapies to reduce exposure from food-borne and environmental contaminants; 2) assessment of molecular biomarkers of exposure and the molecular mechanisms involved in the toxic actions and interactions of mycotoxins and other hazardous materials; 3) modeling and thermodynamics of surface-toxin interactions on amended clay-based materials and multifunctional composites, and 4) technology transfer.
