NEW YORK, Aug. 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WorkLight today made available native iOS support for backend enterprise connectivity and secure authentication, allowing developers and IT professionals to easily integrate new iPhone, iPad and iPod apps with enterprise systems. This latest addition to the WorkLight Mobile Platform also provides the ability to connect existing native applications with enterprise infrastructure.
With this new capability, WorkLight uniquely offers support for downloadable smartphone applications which can be developed using either native or web-based technologies and tools. This affords developers maximum flexibility and significant efficiency with no limits on what and how they build and also reduces training requirements.
"Companies looking to offer smartphone applications face significant challenges, particularly with regard to data connectivity and integration with authentication infrastructure," said Ron Perry, chief technology officer at WorkLight. "With this latest addition to our mobile application platform, we are offering new ways of addressing these critical issues to more effectively build, run and manage successful iPhone and iPad apps."
The WorkLight Mobile Platform's enterprise connectivity layer includes:
-
A native library that enables connectivity to backend enterprise and cloud services through the WorkLight Server
-
Flexible integration with authentication mechanisms to enable custom authentication on the client side, such as two factor authentication or keylogger protection
-
Infrastructure for running applications at scale and with fast performance including caching, clustering and load balancing support
- Management and reporting of end user statistics including application-specific events
The WorkLight Server acts as a gateway between backend systems and end-user devices via an adapter framework that covers HTTP, REST, SOAP, SQL, LDAP, JMS, SAP, SharePoint, HTML scraping and custom adapters.
In addition, WorkLight's software allows companies to reuse the enterprise connectivity layer for applications developed for other smartphones beyond the iOS platform, such as the Android.
