Solarvalue AG / Key word(s): Product Launch 05.10.2010 10:04 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berlin, 5th October 2010: Dr. Christian Bornhauser, executive of Solarvalue AG, presented a current status report about the achieved milestones concerning the development of the new process to produce solar grade silicon out of metallurgical grade silicon on the annual general meeting. Demanded purity achieved. The first solar grade silicon-ingot with a weight of approximately 15 kilograms was produced in repeated tests and on different plants. The purity levels of the critical elements phosphorus and boron with less than 1 ppmw (parts per million weight; weight-related share per million Si atoms) lie underneath the aimed values and therefore within the requested specifications. Very flexible process concerning the used feed stock. The key feature of the underlying process is a multistage treatment for the separate reduction of phosphor, boron and other metals to achieve the requested purity levels. At the same time, the feed stock is allowed to vary to a larger extend. The process is therefore very flexible concerning the initial quality of the metallurgical grade silicon (MGS). This process flexibility is particularly important when it comes to availability and price volatility of the feed stock, the metallurgical grade silicon. The process allows the usage of a broader range of standard, so called commodity-materials and therefore generates cost advantages in purchasing. Technological breakthrough - Financing of own pilot plant ensured. Dr. Bornhauser, chief technology officer of Solarvalue AG: 'We have already achieved far better results with the new process within the last couple of months than with the previous process, which was developed and tested for nearly two years in the USA. We definitely have achieved a breakthrough in this area. We have produced the first ingot in a quality that seems to be adequate for manufacturing solar cells. Of course this has to be verified by means of further tests. The next step is going to be converting the material into cells by our partners. Altogether, this positively attunes us for the further development of the Solarvalue AG. It is still our goal to produce solar grade silicon at compatible costs out of metallurgical grade silicon with the new production process. From today's perspective, thanks to our rigid savings program the current liquidity is sufficient to build a larger pilot plant for ingots up to 60 kilograms each. But we will have to overcome a number of technical and especially financial barriers before we can produce in an industrial scale.' Next presentation. On November12, 2010 Dr. Bornhauser will present an updated report on the company. The analyst conference will take place in connection to the 11th Forum Solarpraxis in Berlin. About Solarvalue: The Solarvalue AG, based in Berlin, was founded in 2005. Nearest purpose of the company is the production of ingots from upgraded silicon.
