LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --Grab your pooch, the kids, don't forget your better half, and climb aboard The Rescue Train (www.therescuetrain.org), Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the world renowned Rosebowl in Pasadena, CA. Whether you're a self proclaimed "Gleek," or a die-hard "DWTS" fan, we've got a little something special for everyone who attends, which means unavoidable fun for the entire family at the 5th Annual "Race For The Rescues" 5k, 10k Run/Walk, Kid's Fun Run and Adoption Celebration.
Hosts this year include Jane Lynch from "Glee", Carrie Ann Inaba from "Dancing With the Stars", Danielle Fishel from "The Dish", Seamus Dever & Jon Huertas from "Castle" and Allisyn Ashley Arm from "Sonny With A Chance". Plus, The LA Laker Girls & "Sparky" the LA Sparks mascot will be cheering on our participants. Then to round out the event we have a Kid's Hiphop dance class, a Dancing With the Dogs Demo, a silent AUCTION that is OFF THE HOOK, and most importantly the beautiful cats and dogs coming out with the rescue groups and shelters looking for loving homes. So come out and help save lives of the many homeless animals in Los Angeles just by attending. Be sure to get there early, check in starts at 7:00am and the road is closed from 8:00am to 9:30am during the actual race and the best part is that it's FREE to attend!
Also new this year, Found Animals (www.foundanimals.org) & AngelDogs Foundation (www.angeldogsfoundation.org) join the Rescue Train Team and participate in the 5th Annual Race For The Rescues event. The organizations have joined forces to hold a FREE Microchip and Registration Clinic from 8:30am to 12:00pm, at the event for anyone who has a dog and attends. If your dog already has a chip, please feel free to stop by and check your current chip ID, update any or all of your information for free or to just ask a question about any of our other initiatives. So grab your pooch and race on over for your free microchip & registration (Dogs Only While Supplies Last). A microchip is the only permanent ID your pet will ever have - - Do you really want him to ever leave home without it?
Race For The Rescues is a premier, Los Angeles animal-related event, disguised as a "Family Fun Day with Hollywood flair," that raises funds for 10 Los Angeles animal rescue organizations, who together save and find homes for over 2,500 abandoned Southland dogs and cats. Funds raised will be split amongst the following organizations: The Rescue Train, Best Friends Animal Society, Animal Alliance, A Dog's Life Rescue, Stray Cat Alliance, Four-Legged Friends Foundation, Molly's Mutts & Meows, The Ozzy Foundation, The Heigl Foundation and Operations Heroes & Hounds.
The top fundraiser will get to meet and have their photo taken with "Glee's" Jane Lynch. Jane will also present them with an autographed and one of a kind Megaphone!
Lisa Young, Director of The Rescue Train says, "We're thrilled tobe celebrating our 5th year of producing this event, but there is added significance this year due to the economic crisis. Donations are down 40% as compared to last year, which means less dogs and cats will end up in new homes and be saved." Lisa continues to explain, "Because of foreclosures, the city shelters are in crisis and are flooded with animals - which, in turn, has dramatically increased the euthanasia rate. The animals need us now more than ever! It's our mission to bring the community together to help us save as many of these precious lives as we can."
Jane Lynch, Emmy award winner and star of the Fox series "GLEE," returns again this year. "Our rescued pets give us constant companionship and unconditional love, and these animal rescue groups are too often short on the necessary resources to give the best care these animals need. They go above and beyond and are truly doing remarkable work, and I'm more than happy and honored to give them my support," says Jane Lynch.
Carrie Ann Inaba, star of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," also returns to co-host the Race and is passionate about the cause. "The solution, of course, is for everyone to spay and neuter their animals and eliminate the overcrowding that causes so many to end up in city shelters. But until we can make that a reality, it is our responsibility to care for all of the animals. That is why events like these are so vital" says Carrie Ann Inaba.
Danielle Fishel, currently starring in the Style series "The Dish" was a participant in the event last year and fell in love with the organization. "I ran in the Race last year and was honored when I was asked to co-host the event in 2010. The Rescue Train is near and dear to my heart and any way that I can help the animal rescue organization further their cause is important to me," says Danielle Fishel.
Seamus Dever, a star in ABC's "Castle" is joining the Race for the first time this year. "As an avid animal lover and someone who is passionate about promoting safe adoption, I am very happy to lend a helping hand to the Rescue Train this year," says Seamus Dever.
Allisyn Ashley Arm, star of Disney's "Sonny with a Chance," is showing her support for Race for the Rescues as the official kid's host. "It's important for us kids to learn early on about pet adoption and the spaying and neutering of their animals. I'm happy to help and am so excited for "Race for the Rescues" this year," says Allisyn Ashley Arm.
This year's turnout promises to be even bigger and better, bringing together families, children of all ages, Girl & Boy Scout troops and other community organizations, schools, even corporate teams, for a day of fun and fundraising for our furry friends!
