Nalco Announces Gulf Coast Recovery Grants, Dec. 10 Deadline for Grant Requests


NAPERVILLE, Ill., Nov. 5, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nalco (NYSE:NLC), providing essential expertise for water, energy and air, announced today it has made three grants through the Nalco Foundation to support Gulf Coast recovery efforts in the aftermath of the recent oil spill. In May the Company announced it would donate $2 million to the Nalco Foundation that the Foundation would donate to organizations conducting relief and clean-up efforts.

The grants include funding to:

  • Catholic Charities of New Orleans – for programs aiding citizens of a number of Louisiana parishes including food programs, crisis counseling and other direct assistance.
     
  • Audubon Nature Institute – for the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program, coordinated by Audubon Aquarium, which has been designated as the primary responder for the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of all marine mammals (dolphins, whales and manatees) and sea turtles along the Louisiana coast.
     
  • Louisiana State University – for studies related to the environmental effects of oil spills and mechanisms to mitigate the environmental impacts of such spills.

The Nalco Foundation has set Dec. 10, 2010 as the deadline for not-for-profit organizations to apply for the remaining Gulf Coast recovery funds. Not-for-profit organizations located throughout the oil spill-affected Gulf Coast area that are interested in applying for funding should send an e-mail to gulfrelief@nalco.com as soon as possible for additional details on the application process.
