Mass Save(R) Honors Twelve Massachusetts Businesses and Industry Partners for Saving Energy and Money

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 12, 2010) - In 2010, thousands of businesses found hundreds of desirable and achievable ways to manage their energy costs, enhance the value of their business and protect the planet. While the actions of each of those businesses are important and admirable, twelve Massachusetts businesses stand apart as the winners of our 2010 MassSavers awards.

Earlier this week, those businesses were honored for completing or undertaking energy efficiency improvements this year with the help of programs from Mass Save, or for supporting energy efficiency initiatives through Mass Save, an initiative sponsored by Massachusetts' gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers.

This fall, Mass Save Sponsors nominated twenty-three mid- to large-size businesses, municipal customers, or industry partners for their efforts as MassSavers. The nominees' efforts were evaluated using specific criteria based on energy efficiency measures undertaken, competitive quantifiable energy and monetary savings, and even energy efficiency education initiatives undertaken. Mass Save is happy to announce the following businesses as recipients of the 2010 MassSavers Award:

Boston University

Cape Air

Cedar's Mediterranean Foods, Inc.

C.R. Peterson Associates

Cummings Properties

Fitchburg Senior Center

Merrimack Valley YMCA

EMD Millipore

Town of Andover

Town of Medfield

RISE Engineering

Wyman-Gordon, a PCC Company

These award winners, along with their guests, sponsors from Mass Save, and other industry professionals, received a behind-the-scenes tour of Fenway Park and a special meet-and-greet with Joe Castiglione, the voice of Red Sox Radio Network, WEEI. Phil Giudice, Commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, addressed the award winners along with Penni McLean-Conner, Vice President of Customer Care for NSTAR Electric & Gas Corp. The awards ceremony was presided over by Ed White, Vice President of Energy Products for National Grid.

"We are thrilled to honor the winners today," said Robert P. Mahoney, Chairman of the Board at Cape Light Compact, one of the Sponsors of Mass Save. "Mass Save is the product of a statewide coordinated effort to achieve energy savings through efficiency programs, and the twelve winners represent the best of those efforts."

Mass Save is aiming to meet a goal of saving close to 2.5 million mega-watt hours of electricity and 45 million therms of natural gas over the next three years. This aggressive objective would ultimately net $4 billion in savings for its participating residential and business customers. "We will continue to harness the strength of the Mass Save initiative to make Massachusetts an energy efficiency leader year in and year out," said Penni McLean-Conner, Vice President of Customer Care for NSTAR.
