After thorough field-testing by BP for use in cleaning the beaches in the Gulf, Vyper Adamas announced that their specialized "pods" have been approved by BP for use in the oil spill cleanup. These pods are designed to fit onto the company's Vyper vehicle that was originally created for military use. The vehicle incorporates a universal platform base that can change functionality based on the pod that is being used.
Combining adaptability, maneuverability and speed in wide ranging conditions and terrain, the revolutionary Vyper is quite unique in its modular design. This design allows it to easily accept various pods in less than ten minutes and dramatically change the vehicle's purpose. From an ambulance service vehicle to a cargo-carrying/logistics vehicle to a search & rescue vehicle, the Vyper has now been adapted for use in vacuuming up oil tar balls and skimming the Gulf Coast beachfronts before oil encroaches upon the shore.
The Vyper vehicle is capable of reliably traversing rock, sand and any type of terrain with gradients up to 60% -- utilizing the Chevy Duramax engine and Turbo 400 Chevy transmission.
BP's interest includes future Emergency Response Vehicles that can travel on the highway quickly arriving at critical beach or oil spill areas in order to perform cleanup swiftly and efficiently, operating on environmentally-sensitive green technology and utilizing bio fuels. Further, from an environmental standpoint, the Vyper not only cleans the beach, it does not leave a footprint behind. This is also true of other Vyper pods that include attachments with flotation tires that can be utilized in swamp areas as well. These tires are configured so that only 1.5 PSI is on the ground, leaving the grass virtually untouched. Further, a manlift pod can reach out beyond its frame so as not to step on (i.e., impact) environmentally sensitive areas.
As was necessary for the Military, the Vyper is lightweight and able to function at night. Through the technological support afforded by Rockwell Collins, 3M and others the vehicle can "see oil at night" without lights and therefore can clean effectively and continuously on a 24-hour/7 day basis. This unique quality allows quiet beach cleaning capability throughout the Gulf in the evenings and early mornings -- leaving the beach areas spotlessly clean, and without disturbance to local residents. Other unique features of this vehicles is its ability to operate with various attachments such as skip loaders, forklift attachments and other custom abilities, allowing entry to swamp and other hard to reach areas, leaving the environment completely clean.

Since the vehicle will not leave a footprint and minimize damage to the living organisms and plant life, i.e. clams, snails, grass, etc; it can get into areas where no human can enter without leaving a footprint.
