LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) - TCL Corporation, a leader in the consumer electronics industry, was awarded one of China's Top Ten Brands at the 44th Consumer Electronics Show (CES), along with nine other Chinese national brands. Unlike other awards in the industry -- where selections are based on companies' revenue and market shares -- the prerequisite for qualifying for the "2010-2011 Top Brands from China" is to engage in green initiatives. Advocating a green future for the consumer electronics industry, TCL seeks to establish a green image for Chinese companies in the global consumer electronics market.
Li Dongsheng, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TCL Corporation, said, "TCL is dedicated in building an innovative, global brand, meeting all of our customers' needs. This award is a testament to TCL's commitment to developing in a green, sustainable way."
Hosted by International Data Group (IDG) and China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (CECC), this award is regarded as China's Oscar in the consumer electronics field. The qualifying process took course over eight months, beginning in May of 2010. Companies were screened by IDC (a research body under IDG), leading international consumer electronics manufacturers, and third-party professionals in the industry. Online voting was also a factor. All companies receiving the award promote green technology and a low carbon lifestyle.
"The consumer electronics market is the most globalized market with the toughest competition. For Chinese companies, establishing an image of delivering quality products is the biggest challenge. By unveiling this award at CES, Chinese enterprises can emerge as a competitive group," said Xu Zhou, Vice President of IDG China.
TCL has made a commitment in meeting and surpassing international global sustainability standards, dedicated to becoming China's most environmentally friendly companies. Apart from adopting green technology in its manufacturing process, TCL also recycles used consumer electronics.
"TCL has very strict criteria on the entire manufacturing process, from selecting raw material to energy consumption. We are one of the first Chinese enterprises that passed the WEEE and ROSH criteria set by the European Union. We are also the first Chinese enterprise to put non-lead manufacturing into practice," said Li Dongsheng.
TCL hopes that with its efforts in promoting sustainable development will strengthen China's consumer electronics industry in the global market, providing high performance products that are also energy efficient. TCL also received the award for Global Annual Quality Flat TV and Global Annual 3D TV at the CES this year.
