Sharp(R) Electronics Corporation's Solar Manufacturing Plant in Memphis, TN to Host U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu

MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) -  Sharp Electronics Corporation will host Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu tomorrow during a visit to the company's solar manufacturing facility in Memphis, Tennessee. The Secretary is charged with helping implement President Obama's ambitious agenda to invest in clean energy, reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil, address the global climate crisis, and create millions of new jobs.

"We are honored to welcome Secretary Chu to Sharp's solar panel manufacturing plant in Tennessee," said Kozo Takahashi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sharp Electronics Corporation. "Sharp has seen strong growth in demand for solar electricity and in turn we have steadily increased output and job creation, making our factory a perfect venue to amplify President Obama's top renewable energy priorities for the country."

While at Sharp's facility, Secretary Chu will tour Sharp's solar panel manufacturing operation and will further discuss the energy initiatives President Obama laid out in his State of the Union Address on January 25. In his address, the President called for 80 percent of America's electricity to come from clean energy sources by 2035.
