Save Our Water Sponsors Water-Wise Garden Guide in June Sunset Magazine

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2011) - When people in California look for gardening answers and inspiration, the timeless and beautiful Sunset magazine is often where they go. That's why the Save Our Water program included an 8-page guide to water-wise gardening in the June issue of Sunset. Titled "6 Simple Steps to a Water-wise Garden," the insert provides tips and ideas on how to create beautiful outdoor landscaping and save water.

Because the majority of California's water waste occurs outdoors, the Save Our Water program's spring and summer outreach program will focus on educating California on simple and easy ways to reduce outdoor water use. This Sunset insert targets California gardeners in an effort to encourage residents to shrink their lawn, plant California friendly plants and flowers, and invest in water-efficient irrigation equipment.

California law requires urban communities to reduce water use by 20% by 2020. When Gov. Jerry Brown officially ended the state's drought declaration in March, he reminded Californians to continue to save water, calling conservation a "key" element to stretching the state's water supply. With education efforts such as the Sunset water-wise gardening insert, the Save Our Water program helps local water agencies educate consumers on why and how to save water at home.
