Winchester Systems Offers Rugged SSD Array for Mobile Air, Sea and Land Use

BILLERICA, MA--(Marketwire - Jul 5, 2011) - Winchester Systems Inc., a leading data storage solutions provider, now offers FlashDisk RV-2500 RAID disk arrays that feature 2.5" Solid State Disks (SSDs). The product is ideal for military use including mobile reconnaissance and surveillance applications as well as commercial data acquisition including oil and gas exploration and seismological data collection.

The FlashDisk RV-2500 is a COTS rugged disk array that supports 24 SSDs in the base unit with a total capacity of 9.6 TB expandable to 67.2 TB with six expansion shelves. SSDs are available in Single Level Cell (SLC) capacities of 50 GB, 100 GB or 200 GB for highest reliability and in Multi-Level Cell capacities (MLC) of 100 GB, 200 GB or 400 GB for highest capacity. SSDs are far more secure and reliable in mobile applications than standard disk drives since they have no moving parts.

The US Army, Navy and Air Force have approved these and similar units for field use. They are deployed in harsh environments worldwide aboard ships, submarines, airplanes and HUMVEE mobile vehicles as well as stationary shelters. The front door is crafted of sturdy milled aluminum that provides rigidity and structural integrity. It also houses a heavy-duty dust filter to constrict particle flow and provide a moisture shield to protect internal components. The LCD front panel is easily viewed by field personnel, is EMI protected and uses long life pushbuttons. The door features a dust and raindrop seal.

The RV-2500 base unit offers single or dual redundant, active-active, failover/failback controllers and provides up to eight 8 Gb Fibre Channel ports, four 6 Gb SAS or 12 iSCSI ports. The controllers include flash memory for cache backup with 10-year retention. The embedded FlashDisk Global Manager makes the RV-2500 easy to setup and manage from a browser based GUI.

Prices for FlashDisk RV-2500 RAID disk arrays start at under $30,000. Products are available now, however, final pricing and delivery is subject to cost and availability of SSD devices.
