HURTSBORO, AL--(Marketwire - Aug 1, 2011) - One of the country's historic and most desirable hunting properties will be offered at a real estate auction on September 13. Enon and Sehoy Plantations, located in Hurtsboro, Ala., combine for over 25,000 acres of pristine golfing, fishing and hunting land. The two plantations will be offered in a total of 19 tracts or as an entirety by J. P. King Auction Company.
The properties have been used as a luxury getaway for hunters for nearly a century as a private-hunt-only plantation that has attracted affluent outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. Owned by the Dupont family from the 1930s to the 1970s, the family used the property for quail hunting before selling it to Malcom McLean, the inventor of the sea-land container. McLean sold the property in 1990, when current owner Campbell Lanier began restoring the property to its original borders and continued hosting the private hunting groups.
"It's such a unique property," said Lanier. "It has a 440-acre private lake, it's teeming with quail, has an abundance of deer and turkey and it's one of the only properties of its type in the Southeast. I've loved being the custodian of this property" -- which is how Lanier looks at owning land -- "but now it's time to let someone else take care of it."
As the land's custodian, Lanier has created a conservation easement and a Safe Harbor Agreement to protect the land and its inhabited red-cockaded woodpeckers.
The majority of the improvements are situated on Tract 1 (Sehoy) and Tract 14 (Enon). Tract 1 boasts a historic, seven-bedroom plantation home, built in the 1800s and occupied by the Dupont family. A modern, six-bedroom estate is also located on Tract 1, along with a nine-hole golf course.
Tract 14, a hunter's paradise, offers a four-bedroom lodge with commercial kitchen as well as a two-bedroom guest home, three-bedroom manager's home and a world-class, six-bedroom deer hunters' lodge with enormous gathering room, game room and commercial kitchen.
Other amenities include equestrian facilities, cabins, sheds, barns, silos, a boathouse and more. For the entire list, contact J. P. King at 800.558.5464 or visit the company's website at www.jpking.com.
The auction will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at 1 p.m. at Sehoy Plantation, located at 1442 St. Mark Church Road in Hurtsboro, Ala. Property tours will be available from August 13 through auction day, by appointment.
