Network Box Adds Anti-Spam Capability to Its Award-Winning Z-Scan Zero-Day Anti-Virus System

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Aug 10, 2011) - Network Box USA (www.networkboxusa.com), the American arm of worldwide managed security service provider Network Box Corp., announced today that the company's Z-Scan zero-day anti-virus system can now also target spam. The new Z-Scan-powered anti-spam engine brings the total number of anti-spam engines used by Network Box to 25 (http://response.network-box.com/protection-spam) and the number of anti-spam signatures to more than 19.6 million.

Utilizing state-of-the-art in-the-cloud technology, Network Box's multi-award-winning Z-Scan can react to zero-day malware up to 4,200 times faster than traditional anti-virus systems. By adapting the same system to the never-ending fight against spam, Network Box can respond to zero-day outbreaks of certain types of spam in just a few seconds, instead of the several hours typical in the Internet security industry.

The Z-Scan system operates by continually analyzing all the threat information obtained in real time from a network of more than 200,000 traps in the cloud that are poised 24/7. The Z-Scan network includes spam traps, virus traps, in-house submissions, customer submissions, email and http statistics, and suspect samples. The Network Box anti-spam system detects more than 99% of the spam emails that come into the spam traps (http://response.network-box.com/services).

Multiple samples from different sources of the same suspicious object are correlated to determine a confidence level: 0% for a new sample and 100% for a positively malicious object. Once the confidence level reaches a pre-set limit, suspicious samples are automatically escalated to security teams for in-depth analysis of the outbreak and final signature release. The confidence levels are published in a global real-time database and queried by a module in real time on every Network Box UTM (unified threat management) appliance.
