The Chicago Council will release a new report on how investments in rural adolescent girls can spur economic and social change. Catherine Bertini, 2003 World Food Prize Laureate, serves as the publication's lead author and chair of the project that produced the report. 43 percent of farming and virtually all of housework in low-income countries are handled by women and girls. The 285 million rural adolescent girls are many of the world's current and future farmers who will help increase the productivity of land. They are also the rural managers, entrepreneurs, decision makers, leaders, and mothers of tomorrow. In spite of this, rural adolescent girls are often among the most disadvantaged. Only two cents of every development dollar goes to adolescent girls.
