WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 26, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Syringa Networks, a regional provider of high-speed fiber optic services, continues its network expansion efforts in Utah. By reinvesting and expanding its infrastructure, the company is creating opportunities for Utah businesses to improve their network services and capacity.
The company has contracted with TE Connectivity (NYSE:TEL), formerly Tyco Electronics, for its data center design at its West Valley City location. Construction has begun on a 10,000 square foot data center facility, located at the companies' 1385 West 200 South location. The new data center, named the West Valley Exchange (WVX), will serve both as a collocation and Central Office (CO) for Syringa Networks Utah operations.
"Our Utah operations provide businesses custom-built networking solutions and localized service," said Gabe Gomez, General Manager for Utah Operations. "High bandwidth users can benefit from our new data collocation services as well as our new network routes."
The new network routes provide Utah businesses with alternate underground paths in and out of state, and benefit Utah businesses by creating more redundancy and flexibility for continuity planning. These new routes also allow businesses an opportunity to obtain dark fiber along the new routes—from Provo to the Idaho border—creating even more diversity and opportunity for Utah businesses. To date, two customers have taken advantage of the dark fiber opportunity and more are expected to follow. Syringa Networks limits availability of dark fiber to one customer per route segment.
Dark fiber is an attractive choice for high bandwidth users. This product offering is available with an Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) agreement. An IRU is a long-term lease of a portion of a fiber optic cable that helps customers plan, control, and expand their bandwidth capacity as their business requirements change. Businesses like data centers, e-commerce, health care, and financial companies can capitalize and depreciate the expense of the IRU instead of incurring operating expenses associated with traditional services.
"We're excited to offer dark fiber to customers with ultra-high capacity bandwidth requirements," said Gomez. "It gives them freedom to scale their bandwidth to meet their specific business needs on a long term basis."
Dark fiber opportunities are available today. Interested parties should contact Syringa Networks to learn more about specific routes and terms.
