SSAE 16 was put forth by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in January 2010. The new standard effectively replaces an aging SAS 70 standard as the authoritative guide for reporting on service organizations. SSAE 16 was drafted to mirror and comply with ISAE 3402, an internationally recognized standard that creates a more unified and transparent reporting tool for organizations across the globe.
