TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- International Child Foundation, one of only three U.S. adoption agencies approved to provide services in Mexico, celebrated the completion of two adoptions from Sonora, Mexico. Both families adopted little boys.
The agency receives a high volume of calls about Mexico adoption from prospective parents who want to provide a home for orphaned children and families trying to adopt relatives. "All adoptive families need help," states Jackie Semar, Executive Director of International Child Foundation, "and educating families about the process is an important facet of our work."
International Child Foundation networks nationally with other adoption agencies. "The leadership and spirit of cooperation in the adoption community is extraordinary," states Ricardo Gallego, the agency's Mexico attorney, after attending a conference in Texas. Both Semar and Gallego are optimistic that the next decade will open more doors for children to find families.
International adoption has been the target of reform since the U.S. joined the Hague Convention treaty on Intercountry Adoption in 2008. Adoptions surged in the late1990s with a peak of 22,991 children adopted in 2004 but as of 2010, the number had dropped to 11,058 children. The decline followed suspension of adoption in several countries.
"The Hague Convention is intended to provide a global framework for international adoption," states Semar, "to ensure transparency and prevent child trafficking."
International Child Foundation is a Hague accredited and non-profit, licensed adoption agency. For information about adoption, visit the website www.childfound.org or email International Child Foundation at info@childfound.org.
