New EcoCore Phase Change Panel From Tate(R) Reduces Indoor Air Temperature Fluctuations and Saves Energy

Panel Offers Energy-Efficient Perimeter Heating and Cooling Solution

JESSUP, MD--(Marketwire - Jan 23, 2012) - Tate®, a market leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of raised access flooring and in-floor cooling solutions, introduced its new EcoCore Phase Change Panel during AHR 2012, Jan. 23-25, at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Tate's EcoCore Phase Change Panel incorporates the latest advances in micro-encapsulated phase change materials to reduce indoor air temperature fluctuations and save energy. During the peak solar load of the day, the phase change material embedded within the welded steel panel is designed to melt and absorb energy -- energy that would otherwise be reflected back into the room as heat or transferred to the air stream.

This stored energy can be held within the panel until cold air during the off hours at night allows the phase change material to resolidify and release the absorbed heat back into the space. Storing energy in this way produces a more stable and comfortable environment during the day while decreasing demands on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and reducing energy costs.

The micro-encapsulated phase change materials within EcoCore panels are engineered to change from solid to liquid at 75.2 degrees Fahrenheit. When this occurs, each panel can absorb more than 175 BTUs. This means that in a 10,000-square-foot facility utilizing 2,250 EcoCore panels, as much as 1-1/2 hours of peak solar loading can be shifted to off peak hours.

The EcoCore raised floor panel provides a safe solution for applying phase change material in a building. By embedding the material in cement and then fully encapsulating it in a steel welded shell, the material is protected from the external environment. EcoCore Phase Change Panels are designed for use in office buildings to reduce energy consumption and support sustainability goals. They are particularly useful as an energy-efficient perimeter heating and cooling solution.
