SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - Jan 24, 2012) - Arizona's Major League Baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, have recently increased their usage of the LaserTouchOne™ as part of their physical therapy regime. Marketed by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Renewal Technologies, the over-the-counter, handheld device is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for relieving acute and chronic pain and promoting the body's natural healing process at the cellular level.
Bumps, bruises, strains and other contusions are extremely common among professional athletes. The team's athletic trainers were seeking something to augment therapy so the players could heal quickly and return to peak performance. The Diamondbacks Head Athletic Trainer, Ken Crenshaw, was introduced to the LaserTouchOne by a staff member who was having positive results using the device to heal pain from a knee injury. About a year ago, the team decided to try out the LaserTouchOne to gauge its effectiveness, and very recently they acquired three of the devices to incorporate into the team's physical therapy routine.
Until meeting with Okky Oei, M.D., an expert in pain care management and the creator of the LaserTouchOne, Crenshaw was a bit skeptical about the device. After watching a demonstration, Crenshaw realized the doctor's therapy philosophy was similar to his. Rather than simply focusing on the localized area of the pain, Oei uses the LaserTouchOne to focus on trigger points surrounding the problem area. According to Crenshaw, "Soft tissue restriction can cause the body to be bound up and create many problems."
Proven in a study to be 93 percent effective, the LaserTouchOne is the only pain relief device on the market that combines low-level laser and micro-current electrical stimulation. Prior to being introduced to the LaserTouchOne, Crenshaw had utilized other cold laser devices before, but he was intrigued by the micro current stimulation as well. While the trainers continue to primarily use traditional forms of physical therapy, such as bruise pads, ice and manual therapy as the main recovery tools, after adding the LaserTouchOne, many of the players have been healing faster than normal. While Crenshaw can't credit one form of therapy over another, the team and staff have expressed they feel the LaserTouchOne has aided in recovery more than anything else.
