Portland, OR, Feb. 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KEF Design LLC, with its marketing partner Desma-Tech, unveiled the world’s first lightweight electric skateboard at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
With models starting at just 17 lbs, the rechargeable battery-powered Metroboard is the lightest and most compact personal electric vehicle on the market, making it a uniquely portable and "green" transportation solution. Unlike other electric skateboards, the Metroboard is designed, tested, and manufactured in the USA. Kef Design is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, a city renowned for its commitment to environmentally conscious products.
The Metroboard looks like a conventional skateboard from above. But thanks to powerful and efficient engineering "under the hood," the boards can reach top speeds of 19 mph and shuttle riders up to 15 miles on a single charge. Riders control acceleration and regenerative braking with a wireless handheld remote. The 600-watt motor is muscular enough to speed riders up hills. The board also sports a bell and flashing lights for safety, user-adjustable skill levels, and a high-accuracy battery gauge. The supercharged LiFePO4 lithium batteries take just 3 hours to charge. With an optional carrier strap, the Metroboard is even easier to take onto public transportation or to carry into offices or schools.
Bottom line: The Metroboard is a great way to get to work or school, or to bridge transportation gaps between bus, train or ferry.
KEF sold its first Metroboard five years ago, and has since shipped orders to places as far flung as Australia, Singapore, and South Africa. The company has built a reputation for an excellent product with superior customer service and technical support. The Metroboard is sold worldwide via its online store, and has been seen on the "The Price is Right" game show, and in the Hollywood movie "The Green Hornet."
Ilan Sabar, president of KEF Design LLC and inventor of the Metroboard says, "Although we’ve been selling Metroboards for about 5 years, the 2012 CES was our first major exhibition. We’ve been fortunate to sell more than 500 units from our internet store. Now we need to take it to the next level and build the marketing and branding by partnering with retail and distribution channels worldwide. This show was a big step in what we know will be an exciting journey."
