BERKELEY, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 1, 2012) - DeYoe Wealth Management, a Berkeley-based firm that specializes in personal wealth management, is hosting an awareness and public service event from 11:30 to 1:30 on Thursday, March 8, in honor of International Women's Day. The event, "Women -- A Force for Change," is being held to benefit the Dwight Way Women's Shelter, raise awareness for women's rights, and celebrate women's power to facilitate social change. In addition to inspirational speakers, the event will include assembling overnight toiletry kits for residents of the Shelter, and a brown bag lunch catered by DeYoe Wealth Management.
"Women -- A Force for Change" will feature three dynamic speakers who will share their stories of helping women rise above poverty, bringing economic stability to their communities, and escaping abusive relationships, both at home and abroad:
- Mary Tam, Development Officer and Bay Area representative for the Mercy Corps, will speak about the organization's efforts to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression in third-world countries by helping people build secure, productive, and just communities.
- Martha Schuman, Vice President of Western Division Sales for Pax World Management LLC and a lay minister for the Episcopal Church, will discuss how she supports organizations such as Mercy Corps, the SLO food bank, the North County Women's Shelter, and Loaves and Fishes.
- Terrie Light will share her experiences as the Executive Director of the Berkeley Food & Housing Project, which is committed to ending the crisis of homelessness in Berkeley.
DeYoe Wealth Management also will be hosting assembly of overnight toiletry kits for the 28 residents of the Dwight Way Women's Shelter. Event attendees are urged to bring travel-sized toiletries -- shampoo, deodorant, shaving materials, etc. -- to add to the toiletry kits, which will be given to women who need them at the Shelter. A brown bag lunch also will be provided by DeYoe Wealth Management; attendees are encouraged to RSVP with a sandwich preference.
"We are dedicated to helping our clients achieve financial independence, but what about those who have no security at all?" said Jonathan DeYoe, founder and CEO of the firm. "International Women's Day provides an opportunity for us to give back to the Berkeley community. At the same time, we want to celebrate the power and independence women can achieve in every aspect of their lives, including their financial future. Hosting an event to aid the Dwight Way Women's Shelter is just one small way we can be of greater service to our community and our clients."
