SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Horace Mann Educators Corporation (NYSE:HMN) announces the launch of The Horace Mann Classroom Project II. This project, introduced on Horace Mann's Facebook page last year, will donate $50,000 to fund public school teachers' classroom projects and is presented in partnership with DonorsChoose.org, an organization that connects donors to classroom projects in need of funding.
According to DonorsChoose.org, teachers spend $1 billion of their own money each year on classroom supplies. The Horace Mann Classroom Project gives teachers a chance to win full funding of a classroom project, up to $500.
"In our first successful Classroom Project promotion, we funded projects impacting more than 12,000 students and their teachers," says Pete Heckman, Horace Mann's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We were overwhelmed with so many positive responses on our Facebook page, and since our company was founded by educators for educators, we couldn't be more proud to support the teaching community."
Public school teachers interested in entering the contest can "Like" Horace Mann's Facebook page, and click on "The Classroom Project II" tab for the rules and details, and to submit their classroom project for a chance to win funding. From April 4 through May 23, DonorsChoose.org will randomly select projects to fund with Horace Mann's weekly donation of $5,000. In addition, Horace Mann will also have two special $5,000 drawings – May 4, the anniversary of Horace Mann's birthday, and May 8, National Teacher Day.
