WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Apr 17, 2012) - The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, today opened registration for the 2012 Online News Association Conference & Awards Banquet (ONA12), Sept. 20-22, at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco.
The 12th annual event will kick off Thursday, Sept. 20, with an Opening Night Reception sponsored by NPR and Digital First Media at the historic Rincon Center.
The ONA12 conference committee is busy choosing programming from 230 submissions, guided by public voting, and four tracks of sessions and speakers will be announced in May. At last year's sold-out conference, more than 1,200 digital journalists attended three days of workshops and general sessions covering topics ranging from investigative journalism, warzone reporting, ethics and entrepreneurship to tablets, mobile, design, development and data visualization.
Thursday features intensive, smaller workshops demystifying programming and multimedia, as well as field trips to some of San Francisco's leading tech institutions; Hacks/Hackers Hacking @ ONA12; an Entrepreneuring 4.0 Workshop from J-Lab, and Law School for Digital Journalists, a full day of practical training, presented by leading experts on digital media law. A Career Summit & Job Fair will feature professional development sessions and one-on-one meetings with recruiters from major media and technology companies, independent news organizations and academia.
The conference action is covered by the 20 hand-picked young journalists in the Student Newsroom, sponsored by Google. This year saw 430 applicants from all over the globe, double the number from ONA11.
The Online Journalism Awards Banquet, celebrating digital journalism excellence and emceed by Hari Sreenivasan, Correspondent and Director of Digital Partnership at PBS NewsHour, closes out the conference.
