ATLANTA, April 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Propane Clean Air Rally and Autogas Parade in Atlanta Saturday featured autogas fleet vehicles from Alliance AutoGas, among more than 50 propane vehicles from around the country. Held by the National Propane Gas Association as part of the Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo, the event put a spotlight on this cost-effective domestic clean fuel in a time of rising gasoline prices.
"We've been hearing a lot about compressed natural gas for fleets with gas prices spiking recently, so this event was the perfect opportunity to really put a focus on autogas as the most viable alternative fuel," said Steve Whaley of Alliance AutoGas, who spoke about the Alliance complete program for fleets. "Not only is autogas clean, American-made and cheaper than gasoline, the Alliance AutoGas program offers funding options so fleets can switch to autogas at no upfront cost."
Georgia-based fleet vehicles in the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program, for which Alliance AutoGas provides vehicle conversions and fuel, were featured at the event courtesy of administering organization Virginia Clean Cities and Clean Cities-Atlanta. The Muscogee County and Carroll County Sheriff's Offices, the City of Sandy Springs, and certified autogas conversion center Force 911 participated in the parade. The event also featured propane-powered school buses, trucks, cars and dragsters, as well as forklifts, commercial lawn mowers, golf carts and more. Industry experts from Alliance AutoGas and Clean Cities-Atlanta shared their knowledge about clean fuel technology, while fleet managers discussed how switching to autogas has benefited their fleets. The rally began at 12pm on April 14 in Atlanta's famous Centennial Olympic Park.
"In the state of Georgia alone, hundreds of autogas vehicles are already operating and saving thousands of dollars a month on fuel costs, including the Jackson, Carroll and Muscogee County Sheriff's Offices," said Stuart Weidie, president of Alliance AutoGas and founder of Autogas for America. "Autogas is the only alternative fuel that can stand on its own without government subsidies. We can't afford to overlook the most practical solution to our fuel crisis."
Fleets currently save more than $1.25 per gallon on autogas compared to gasoline. Autogas is 30 percent cleaner than gasoline, and 98 percent of the U.S. autogas supply is made in North America. The Alliance AutoGas complete program provides fleets one point of contact to handle vehicle conversions, installation of a fuel station at the fleet base, data integration for fuel management systems, operational and safety training, ongoing technical support, and more.
