Mountain House Diner Debuts at Reno-Tahoe International

SSP America Introduces Warm, Hearty Eats to an Alpine Retreat at the Airport

LANSDOWNE, Va., May 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SSP America, the North American division of SSP, the leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, is proud to announce the debut of its latest brand concept, Mountain House Diner, at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Nestled in the foothills of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range and recently named Ski Magazine's "Third Best Airport for Skiers", Reno-Tahoe International Airport serves as the region's gateway to no less than 18 of the country's most beautiful ski destinations, welcoming just under 4 million annual business and student travelers as well as the eager outdoorsmen. The Reno-Tahoe region has long attracted those partial to a sense of adventure, and Mountain House Diner delivers the power food necessary to sustain those hearty appetites.

"The new Mountain House Diner will help our airport make the all-important first and last impression on leisure and business travelers," Krys Bart, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport, said. "Located adjacent to our iconic ski statue, the wide ranging menu, outdoor theme and local flavors will make Mountain House a favorite meeting place in our airport."

Ski in/Ski out – and rest before departure, or, start the fun right after landing.  Après-ski does not have to come after hitting the slopes; it can happen the moment vacation begins.  Mountain House Diner invites guests to unwind and completely relax with generous portions, creative cocktails and lodge-inspired surrounds within the 1900 square foot space.

A cross between a tranquil alpine lake house and a friendly, neighborhood diner, Mountain House brings travelers a touch of the slopes with a dash of old-school, and an undeniable, yet firmly unpretentious foodie vibe.

A visual of tightly stacked split wood lines the back bar evoking snug, warm cabin comfort. Cool urban touches - steel pendant lighting, vintage ski poster art and throwback 80s skis are thoughtfully displayed for conversation starters.  A colorful sticker wall tells boarders they are "home" and comfortable chrome bar stools invite guests to watch the culinary performance taking place in the open-kitchen with the aroma of mouthwatering food drifting from the cast iron griddle.  Mountain House's sustainable design makes this outdoorsy restaurant the perfect choice to remind travelers of the holiday they have just finished or the one that they are about to begin.

As a nod to the Reno-Tahoe community, regionally-grown food and locally-sourced beverage ingredients from Northern Nevada are used wherever possible.  The words "all day breakfast" never fails to bring a smile: Skillet Scrambles, served "Healthy" with spinach, feta, mushrooms and egg whites, or, "Mountaineer" made with big game bison, jack cheese and roasted corn and peppers.  Pancakes (short stack or tall) are topped with bananas and walnuts, blueberries, chocolate chips or sweet apple compote indulging all possible carb cravings while the Belgium Waffle, topped with whipped cream, dusted with powdered sugar and served with pure maple syrup feeds the soul.  Three Way Burgers – all half pound – are plated with a choice of 100% beef, bison or venison and topped with American, mushroom and Swiss or – "the works":  bacon, bbq, cheddar, sautéed mushrooms and fried onions.  Homestyle Chicken & Waffles with maple gravy and mac n' cheese on the side, as well as Big Game Meatloaf with chipotle gravy and hand-cut fries are all served with lumberjack-sized portions.

"Little Skiers" can enjoy Grilled Chicken Lollipops with a cheddar cheese dip and steamed veggies or, Mini Meatloaf with fries and fresh fruit, and pint-sized versions of hand-dipped shakes will no doubt make even the grumpiest of little travelers happy again.

Les Cappetta, President and CEO of SSP America, commented, "We believe Mountain House Diner is a perfect fit for our travelers at RNO and are thankful for the opportunity to continue our partnership with the Reno-Tahoe International Airport Authority.  We are proud of what we have achieved with Mountain House and we hope that our customers enjoy eating, drinking and relaxing there as much as we have enjoyed creating it."

Mountain House Diner is located pre-security in Reno-Tahoe's Main Entrance Hall.
