Carroll University Expands Virtual Education Services With AvayaLive(TM) Engage

Avaya today announced that Carroll University is expanding its virtual education services and increasing participation in its programs without additional cost by developing new ways to use AvayaLive™ Engage to create a tech-savvy, next-generation campus.

With 3,500 students from 24 states and 12 countries, Carroll is a small university that can now compete with larger colleges by providing 3D virtual learning, conferencing and collaboration. Using the on-demand, interactive multimedia capabilities of AvayaLive Engage (formerly web.alive), Carroll University has increased its range of activities by 50 percent in the first year of using the platform, which students, faculty and staff access daily.

Carroll University has saved over $23,000 for its International Studies program by reducing the amount of time-consuming and expensive travel required to build global educational relationships. AvayaLive Engage allows the University to hold meetings anywhere in the world and can include video, PowerPoint and interactive Q&As. Virtual tutoring and faculty coaching result in local "green" savings as well when participants don't have to drive to campus to meet.

Carroll University has also been able to expand activities across departments and services without costly network or software upgrades since AvayaLive Engage is accessed through the cloud and only requires a browser plug-in that integrates with the university's existing network, security and business software tools.

In addition to working with Carroll University to maximize the benefits of AvayaLive Engage, Avaya and its channel partner TSG, upgraded the university's network infrastructure with Avaya S8300 and S8500 media and communications servers. Avaya Ethernet Routing Switches -- including the ERS 2500, ERS 4000, ERS 5000 and ERS 8600 Series -- were also deployed throughout Carroll's campus backbone to deliver high performance, secure and resilient Ethernet switching connectivity.
