HUNT VALLEY, Md., May 23, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AAI Test & Training, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, announced today the availability of a new electronic warfare (EW) threat file translator that will be integrated as a standard capability on its state-of-the-art Advanced Architecture Phase, Amplitude and Time Simulator (A²PATS) system. Customers can automate the transfer of their threat file libraries from legacy systems to A²PATS quickly and reliably, making the vast majority of the U.S. Navy's existing simulator-derived files available on the new system. AAI Test & Training already has delivered its first translator-capable A²PATS system to a U.S. Navy customer.
"Our EW threat file translator preserves existing threat databases developed for legacy systems and formats them to operate directly in the Navy's new A²PATS EW simulators," says Senior Vice President and General Manager Robert Peters of AAI Test & Training. "This capability saves our customers countless work-hours otherwise needed to recreate the files in the newer format."
A²PATS is the industry's first EW simulator utilizing direct-port radio frequency (RF) injection, providing the highest possible signal fidelity at the lowest cost by eliminating the complex, performance-limiting RF distribution networks required for multiplexed simulators. The A²PATS system incorporates identical, high-performance, phase-coherent Synthetic Stimulus Instruments behind every port for plug-and-play installation, testing availability and easy maintenance. AAI Test & Training has sold A²PATS systems to the U.S. Navy, Air Force and other Department of Defense prime contractors.
