WINNIPEG, Manitoba, July 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Southglen Veterinary Hospital in Winnipeg announced that the practice has launched a new website to help pet owners learn about the basics of pet care. The new website, http://www.southglenvethospital.ca, includes veterinary wellness articles, a video newsroom, Pets4Kids program and a Vetopedia. According to Winnipeg veterinarian Dr. Sra, these online resources are designed to educate pet owners.
Winnipeg pet owners have a new resource for learning more about at-home wellness care. Dr. Sra announced that his practice, Southglen Veterinary Hospital, has launched a new website dedicated to pet health.
"From choosing the right pet for your family to bringing your pet home, our website is intended to simplify the process of becoming a first-time pet owner," said Dr. Sra. "New owners can learn more about the best way to introduce a pet into a family, obedience training and housebreaking. Long-time pet owners can deepen their knowledge of overall pet health."
The website includes a checklist of what to expect as a first time pet owner as well as tips for pet-proofing a house and teaching children how to be responsible caregivers. The website's Pets4Kids program contains resources to help parents teach their children about compassionate pet ownership.
The website's Vetopedia includes information on common veterinary care terms and procedures. According to Dr. Sra, the Vetopedia, along with other wellness articles, are designed to educate pet owners.
"All pet owners want the best for their pets, but it can be difficult sometimes to know when a pet is sick or something is wrong," said Dr. Sra. "Our website's veterinary care resources will help pet owners better understand what their pets are trying to communicate. For example, the 'signs of illness' checklist helps pet owners identify potential health problems and know when to seek care at a veterinary hospital."
The website also features information on different services available at the animal hospital, including spay and neuter, pet surgery and pet vaccinations.
Pet owners can sign up for the practice's bi-weekly e-newsletter, which delivers veterinary care news straight to a pet owner's in-box.
"Since we may only see healthy pets once or twice a year, our newsletter and blog are two great ways to improve communication with pet owners," said Dr. Sra. "We invite pet owners to post common care questions they may have on our blog. Pet owners should be sure to check back regularly – we may dedicate our next blog post to answering the question!"
Future blog post topics include nutrition, illness prevention and pet dentistry. Pet dentist and Winnipeg veterinarian Dr. Sra will be answering questions about the importance of routine dental cleanings.
Pet owners who visit the website can also sign up to take advantage of the practice's new patient special offer.
Southglen Veterinary Hospital is open until midnight seven days per week. The practice provides companion animal care for dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets.
