MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 2, 2012) - Shape Security, a start-up developing new web security technology, today announced Shuman Ghosemajumder has joined the company's executive team and will lead marketing. In addition, he will drive Shape's strategy and partnerships.
Most recently, Ghosemajumder served as Google's "click-fraud czar," helping to protect the company's $20B in advertising revenue from highly-advanced automated and human-assisted attacks. During his time at Google, Ghosemajumder won two 'Google Founders Awards,' the company's most high-profile accolade, for his tremendous entrepreneurial and technical achievements. Ghosemajumder was an early product manager on Google's AdSense offering and helped grow that product to more than $2B in revenue. He was also part of the team that launched Gmail and co-founded Google's Privacy Council.
"At Google, Shuman led click-fraud protection and helped identify billions of dollars worth of invalid clicks on Google's advertising network," said Derek Smith, CEO of Shape Security. "His experience will be critical as Shape rolls out its sophisticated new line of web defenses."
Earlier in his career, Ghosemajumder founded and ran a successful IT consulting business, worked at McKinsey & Co., and earned his MBA from MIT Sloan School. He is the co-author of "CGI Programming Unleashed," a general introduction to web programming, and was named one of Boston Globe's MIT150.
"I'm delighted to join Shape," said Ghosemajumder. "For years I've been passionate about security, privacy, and their impact on both users and businesses. Helping build Shape and improving the state of security on the web is deeply exciting."
In April, Shape Security closed a $6 million Series A financing round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers which also included Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt's TomorrowVentures and Google Ventures, in addition to executives from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other prominent companies.
