Tempe, July 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- David and Marla Stern are the ultimate all-American couple. The couple met on the fourth of July in 1980 in New Jersey and if that wasn't patriotic enough, eighteen years later the couple launched their own small business, Precise Corporate Staging, also on July 4th.
"Fourth of July is about freedom and independence, but we often forget that both of those come at a high cost." said David Stern, president and founder of Precise Corporate Staging. "Running a business is just like that, we have to sacrifice a lot, work hard and ultimately be the ones responsible for our freedom. Just ask any small business owner in America and they will agree."
Stern launched Precise Corporate Staging to provide technical solutions, sound, lighting and audio to the special events and entertainment industries. Stern started his career in the entertainment industry in the early 80s touring with stars like Meatloaf and Bon Jovi. Building on that experience allowed him to develop a strong platform and build relationships to grow from. Despite numerous challenges, including nearly having to close their business after the economic downturn following 9/11, David and Marla pushed through year after year, making countless personal sacrifices to keep the business growing.
Their dedication is paying off. Today Precise Corporate Staging is leading the way in serving high-profile clients for both: corporate events and entertainment divisions of the company. Precise Corporate Staging has grown to 18 employees and two offices: headquarters in Tempe, Arizona and a regional office in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
This year alone, PCS entertainment division has provided technical solutions and event support for events and concerts such as The Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Good Life Festival, The Bill of Rights Comedy Tour, Jay Leno, Smoky Robinson and Snow Patrol with Florence and the Machine. The team is now gearing up for the summer concert season, which includes Alice Cooper's 2012 Tour, Rock USA, Country USA and Sturgis Buffalo Chip, the largest music festival in motorcycling. On the corporate events side of operations, PCS supplied and managed the BBB Annual Awards Dinner at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in May and is currently working on Hershey's annual conference also taking place in July.
But running a "born-on-the-fourth-of-July" business is only one factor that sets this all-American couple apart. They are known in the community for their charitable giving and always finding ways to support non-profits and great causes. "We feel so fortunate to be able to give back to our communities," said Marla Stern, co-founder and chief operating officer for Precise Corporate Staging. "When charities put on fundraising events, the largest cost center often is the equipment rental to run audio, video and lighting. When we can come in and provide that part free of charge, it boosts their fundraising efforts significantly and makes us feel great about being able to give back."
Each year since its inception, Precise Corporate Staging has found many ways to lend a helping hand in the community and 2012 has been no exception. In the spring, the company aided the March of Dimes with their annual signature event by supplying equipment and technical services free of charge. In addition, David Stern assisted Alice Cooper with the promotion and raising of funds for the grand opening of "The Rock," a teen center that is a part of Cooper's larger community faith-based organization for at risk teens, the Solid Rock Foundation. Stern continues his work with Solid Rock, as he is presently helping to design a curriculum that will teach the youth at the center all about behind the scenes event work, including how to operate sound, video and lighting equipment.
Looking back on their unsteady first year of business, when the events industry seemingly disappeared after the events of September 11th, 2001 David and Marla Stern feel delighted and blessed to see how far Precise Corporate Staging has come. "Our revenue for the three months following 9/11 was a mere $200 and we had to sell one of our cars just to pay the mortgage," David Stern says of the business' shaky start. "We almost lost our home at that point, but we were determined to make this work and we believed it could. Thanks to our focus on the best customer service and equipment and our undying spirit of giving back, it has."
Celebrating twelve successful years, Precise Corporate Staging is looking forward to the future and continues to move full speed ahead. Commemorating their July 4th anniversary in an especially patriotic way, the PCS team has contacted military bases and charities that aid past and present men and women in service and their families, both in Arizona and in Georgia, to coordinate efforts on their upcoming events. PCS will deliver equipment and event support to these select causes at no cost. Helping such organizations and showing appreciation for the men and women of our country's armed forces is a personal passion for David and Marla Stern, because their own son, Matthew Stern, is a sergeant in the US Army.
