Palo Alto Chiropractor Urges People to Stay Healthy All Summer


PALO ALTO, Calif., July 22, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Chiropractor Dr. Mary Reimer, who runs the Reimer Wellness Center serving Palo Alto and Los Altos, urges people to plan healthy summer activities and vacations this year. She says many of her patients express concerns about going off of their diet or exercise plans over the summer. Dr. Reimer advises people to incorporate healthy activities and eating into their vacation plans. She says people should intentionally schedule things like hiking, biking, yoga, swimming and other outdoor activities. She reminds people to stay hydrated, remember their sunscreen and focus on healthy eating.

The Palo Alto chiropractor, who also provides life coaching, says people do not need to break their healthy habits over the summer. "Too many people here and in Los Altos take a vacation from their healthy habits while traveling, and then find it hard to get back into them once summer is over. I encourage people to plan healthy activities that will energize and not drain them. Instead of trying to see as many things as possible from the car, people can explore new areas on bikes, or on foot. Camping, hiking, swimming, beach volleyball, etc. are fun, healthy ideas. Or try a yoga retreat. You'll feel refreshed afterward, instead of needing to take a vacation from your vacation."

Dr. Reimer, who focuses on holistic healing techniques, says that the biggest pitfall many people experience over the summer or on vacation are changes in their diets. She says many people see vacation as a time to splurge on foods they wouldn't ordinarily eat, and then they come back with a few extra pounds. She explains that people can still have fun eating new things over the summer, but to follow a few tips to help them keep their diets healthy.

According to Dr. Reimer, one healthy summer eating tip is to visit local farmers' markets. She says people can save a lot of calories and get to know more about a region this way, instead of stopping for gas station snacks. She also suggests that families can save money and calories by packing their own healthy meals and snacks in a cooler. She says when eating out, to watch portion sizes; share entrees with family members, or focus on smaller appetizers. She also suggests steering clear of sodas and alcoholic beverages as much as possible, opting for water instead.

Dr. Reimer urges people to use summer as a springboard to better health. "Summer is the best time to get outdoors and really enjoy doing things that make you fit—explore new places and eat healthy foods. Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, stretch before exercising, slather on the sunscreen, and make this your healthiest summer ever!"
