TORONTO, Aug. 8, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As Canadians get ready to head back to school, there's one meal that's causing parents the most stress and guilt – and it has nothing to do with lunches. A new survey into what really goes into getting Canadian families out the door in the morning reveals that breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day, it's also the most stressful.
According to results of the landmark poll, conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of Breakfast Cereals Canada and offering a rare glimpse into the a.m. routine, mornings are indeed crunch time in Canadian households: six in 10 moms and dads report that the tasks associated with getting their families and themselves out the door make for the most stressful time of the day. On average, the poll results reveal, it takes families 77 minutes from "get up" to "go," with some harried parents reporting that it takes two hours – or more – to get out the door in the morning.
Parents know the health benefits of a balanced, nutritious morning meal – from reduced obesity risk to better grades in school. But 64 per cent say the impact of this time crunch on breakfast – which often results in skipping the morning meal altogether – translates into guilt.
The good news is getting a healthy breakfast on the table and making it out the door in a reasonable amount of time doesn't require superhuman powers. The Morning Crunch Time "Thrival" Guide offers busy moms and dads everything they need to reduce the chaos of the morning routine.
Registered dietitians who are also moms are available to discuss the poll results and tips and tricks from the Morning Crunch Time Thrival Guide:
