IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 5, 2012) - OCBC President and CEO Lucy Dunn was appointed unanimously Tuesday evening by the Ontario City Council to the newly formed Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA).
The OIAA was created in August 2012 through a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) between the City of Ontario and San Bernardino County with the goal of gaining local control of Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles, which has managed it since 1967. OIAA seeks to provide overall direction on the management, operations, development and marketing of the Ontario airport. With improved local control, the OIAA intends to increase passenger traffic through the airport, serve its surrounding four-county market better, and benefit the Southern California economy as a whole.
"Ontario International Airport is an underutilized regional asset critical to the economic growth of Southern California," Dunn said. "As an Orange County resident, John Wayne Airport will remain my 'favorite' -- and a convenient choice for business and tourism, but Ontario International Airport complements JWA in serving additional air transportation and goods movement needs for the region while saving annually millions of transportation trips into Los Angeles," added Dunn.
Dunn and Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge were recommended by Ontario City Council Members Alan D. Wapner and Jim W. Bowman to serve on the five-member authority; Wapner and Bowman were previously appointed to the OIAA. Under terms of the JPA, two members of the OIAA come from the Ontario City Council, one member is San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitz, representing the district in which Ontario International Airport is located, and two are prominent community members from the airport's service market.
More than 120 governments, organizations and prominent officials from four Southern California counties have endorsed local control of Ontario International Airport.
