DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - Sep 17, 2012) - MetaMetrics®, developer of The Lexile® Framework for Reading, announced that two new mobile apps now utilize Lexile measures to connect readers with texts. Classroom Library Co., an educational distributer and publisher, has partnered with MetaMetrics to provide the Lexile measures of books for their Book Retriever app.
Available on iPhones, Book Retriever allows you to scan, level and inventory books. Educators and parents can obtain and record the reading levels of their books, as well as keep track of which students have borrowed which titles. In addition to helping teachers, parents and students manage their collection of books, Book Retriever simplifies the process of leveling your book collection. With over 130,000 titles with Lexile measures available, you can scan a book to learn the associated reading measure. A noteworthy feature of this app allows users to make print-ready labels of books' reading levels.
Due to popular demand, MetaMetrics has launched its own mobile app, "Find a Book" Beta Mobile. Available in the Android marketplace, "Find a Book" Beta Mobile brings the power "Find a Book" to mobile phones. This recently released Beta Version of the app connects readers with texts based on their personal interests and reading ability (Lexile measure) to improve reading skills. With the same popular features as the "Find a Book" website, users can:
- Match yourself, your child, or student to the books of best fit based on reading ability (Lexile measure) and personal interests
- Allow a user without a Lexile measure to search for books by estimating his or her Lexile measure based on comfort with grade-level materials
- Search for books using a quick keyword search
- Browse through the entire Lexile titles database
- View a book detail page containing bibliographical and summary information for every title
- Check the availability of books in your local, public library by accessing OCLC's database of more than 130,000 titles in WorldCat
- Map directions to the closet library with your book selection(s)
- Buy your book selection(s) with a Barnes & Noble® quick link
"We are thrilled that Lexile measures are reaching new audiences through mobile devices," said Malbert Smith III, Ph.D, President and Co-founder of MetaMetrics. "We recognize the crucial role technology plays in education and are excited that Lexile measures will now reach more parents, educators, librarians, and students. We understand that involvement in technologies like smart phones is essential in our efforts to keep kids reading."
"MetaMetrics was the first organization to see the importance of matching books to readers in a simple mobile platform," said Benjamin Conn, Senior Vice President of Classroom Library Company. "Our partnership allows teachers, administrators and parents to find just the right books for children, without any frustration. We are proud to feature Lexile measures."
The Lexile Framework is a unique tool for accurately matching readers with text. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework evaluates reading ability and growth based on actual assessment results, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Lexile measures help teachers, librarians and parents find books, articles and other resources within a reader's recommended Lexile range: 100L below to 50L above his or her Lexile measure. Reading materials within this optimal Lexile range will challenge the individual's reading ability, while still maintaining interest and learning.
Recognized globally as the most widely used reading metric, tens of millions of Lexile measures are reported annually from reading assessments and programs. For more information, visit www.Lexile.com.
